For this video, we decided to show an experimental process, one that we were nervous but very excited about. We often get these beautiful painted papyrus’ from Egypt and in many cases they are very tightly rolled. Usually we are able to unroll them and mount them with out issue but in this case, the customer purchased the pieces back in 2007 and they were beginning to crack and break as they were unrolled. With her signed permission and release, we used water/steam to soften the fibers. This was the nervous part as too much water will separate the fibers nor did we know how the paint would react with water. You’ll have to watch to see the end results! 🙂
